Carlo Crocco launches HUBLOT

For the first time in the history of watchmaking, a precious material, gold, was combined with rubber.
The porthole-shaped case with its combination of polished and brushed gold, the minimalist black dial and the inimitable bracelet in natural black rubber became the symbol of Hublot watches.

The Birth of Fusion

In 1980, Hublot took the world of watchmaking by surprise when it created for the first-time ever, a watch with a precious metal case held by a natural rubber strap. This would mark the birth of the “Fusion” concept.

Classic Diver

After the success of the original porthole-inspired Hublot, a diver’s watch was added to the collection; harmoniously fitting with the rubber strap.

Classic Chronograph

In 1986 Hublot launched its first-ever chronograph watch, the “Classic Chronograph”.

1990 September

“Elegant Chronograph”

In 1990, Hublot added the “Elegant” line to its offerings, which kept the same porthole silhouette as its Classic collection, but with a more minimalistic design; most noticeably the lack of screws on the bezel.

2000 July

“The Art Collection”

For the 20th anniversary of Hublot in 2000, a special collection, in collaboration with Master Engraver Gianfranco Pedersoli was launched, featuring several unique pieces; each using a “hunter case” with a different engraving.

2004 May

Jean-Claude Biver :

In May 2004, Jean-Claude Biver took on his responsibilities as CEO, member of the board of directors and minority shareholder of Hublot watches, with a head full of projects for developing the brand.

Under the aegis of its new CEO, Hublot returned to its founding principles: Jean-Claude Biver brought back the concept of “The Art of Fusion”.

Ricardo Guadalupe

In 2004, Ricardo Guadalupe rejoined Jean-Claude Biver at Hublot as Product & Marketing Consultant for the brand; sharing his vast knowledge and experience in the luxury watch industry and helping the brand take its original “Art of Fusion” concept to a new level.

Super B Chronograph

In 2004, Hublot released an updated design of its original chronographs: The Super B Flyback Chronograph collection. Featuring a rubber-coated bezel, and blackened case, the Super B was the Hublot watch to be released before the creation of the Big Bang.

2005 January

LAUNCH OF THE BiG BANG

Presented during Baselworld 2005, the “Big Bang” chronograph is a perfect illustration of the concept of Fusion!

An instant success with orders tripled compared to the preceding year...
Some months later, the Big Bang won the prize for Best Design at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
Since then, Hublot has seen explosive growth, piling up awards, successes and orders.

Ricardo Guadalupe

FIRST OWN-BRAND BOUTIQUE

Hublot opened its first own-brand boutique in Paris, on Rue Saint-Honoré. The second was inaugurated the following summer in Saint-Tropez in the Hotel Byblos.

Big Bang One Million $

Launch of the One Million $ B. B., a masterpiece of invisible gem setting which makes the metal disappear leaving only the diamonds visible.

The Big Bang Diver made an impressive entry, with a remarkably well-balanced oversize 48 mm case.

RECOGNITION

In early 2007, he was named “Best watch industry manager” and “Best communicator” in a survey carried out among watch industry journalists by “Business Historique Hublot Montres”.
At the end of 2007, he won fifth place in the Businessman of the Year ranking run by the Handelszeitung (Swiss economic weekly), voted by 100 economics journalists.

MAG BANG

Hublot brought out its first model entirely manufactured in-house. The Mag Bang was designed and developed with a new lightweight alloy composed principally of aluminum and magnesium.

RECOGNITION

The Big Bang won the Best Watch prize at Wallpaper magazine’s 2007 Design Awards. The One Million $ Big Bang received the Jewelry Watch Prize at the 2007 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
In the Middle East, the Mag Bang won the award for Best Technological Innovation at Bahrein’s 2007 Middle East Watches, Jewellery & Pens.
Next it was the turn of Bucharest in Romania to host the crowning of the Big Bang Gold Ceramic as Best Watch by Caesar magazine.

RECOGNITION

By the end of 2007, turnover reached more than 150 million Swiss francs and the workforce had nearly doubled.
To keep up with its growth, Hublot started building a new manufacture at the end of December.

First Big Bang For Women

2008 kicked off with the launch of the first Big Bang exclusively designed for women with a diameter of 38 mm, and a gem-set bezel without a chronograph.

LVMH Buys Up Hublot

A new chapter opened in the life of the watch brand. On April 24, 2008, Carlo Crocco sold Hublot to the French group LVMH, world leader in luxury products.
Hublot’s strong growth in high-end watchmaking makes the brand a good fit for the LVMH group’s watch industry portfolio.
Jean-Claude Biver, CEO, and Ricardo Guadalupe, Director general, retain their posts within the company to contribute to the expansion of the group’s watchmaking arm.

Official Timekeeper For EURO 2008

By becoming official timekeeper of the Euro 08 which took place in Switzerland and Austria, Hublot enjoyed a month of exceptional visibility across all social strata of the population.
In the world of football, Jean-Claude Biver was the first to pull off the masterstroke of placing a luxury brand among the sponsors.
He had a special timekeeper made for referees: the movement is adapted to the length of a match.
On the eve of the match, he announced that he would waive his advertising space in favor of the slogan “No to racism”. A masterstroke.

Big Bang Purple Carat

The Big Bang Purple Carat won no less than three distinctions during fall 2008, the fusion of gold and amethyst made an immediate impression.
It received second prize in the in the Women’s Watch category during the sixth Nuit de l’Horlogerie in Geneva.
It was also a winner in the Lady Watch category at the Bahrein Jewellery and Pens Awards.
The Paris Revue de la Montre awarded it the prize for Ladies’ Chronograph.

MANCHESTER UNITED

In October 2008, Hublot entered Manchester United’s “Theater of Dreams” by becoming the first Official Timekeeper for the famed Red Devils.

CEO of the YEAR

Jean-Claude Biver was voted 2008 CEO of the Year at the Bahrein Jewellery and Pens Awards and 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year by Switzerland’s PME Magazine.
2009 began on the same note for Jean-Claude Biver, when he was voted 2009 Man of the Year by the magazines Orologi da Polso, Revue des Montres, GMT and Business Montres.

KING POWER

Hublot presented a brand new collection entitled King Power. True to his philosophy, the watchmaker pushed the limits yet further.
This 48 mm timepiece was more powerful and more evolved.
The dial has several levels, the bezel is overmolded with rubber, and the screws are set in relief.

A NEW MANUFACTURE

Hublot inaugurated its new high-tech manufacture in Nyon on the shores of Lake Leman: 60,000 sq ft dedicated to the art of watchmaking and the making of the new UNICO movement, a dial-side column-wheel chronograph movement, entirely conceived, developed and manufactured in-house by Hublot.

UNICO MOVEMENT

The first King Power models equipped with the UNICO movement go on sale.
With its first chronograph movement entirely made in-house by Hublot, the King Power UNICO became the emblem of the brand’s progress towards verticalization.

TOURBILLON MANUFACTURE

To mark its 30th anniversary, Hublot treated itself to an exclusive model dubbed “King Power Tourbillon Manufacture”, a limited series of 50. Inspired by the interior design of the workshops of the new Hublot manufacture, this King Power houses a Tourbillon movement made in-house by the Confrérie Horlogère Hublot, specializing in grand watchmaking complications.

Creation of a Grand Complications department within the Hublot manufacture, incorporating some thirty watchmakers, prototype makers, electroplaters and engineers from Hublot’s old supplier BNB, all specialized in Grand Complication movements.

2010 GAÏA PRIZE

Thursday September 16, 2010, at the International Watch Museum at Chaux-de-Fonds, before an assembled crowd of some 300 persons including a number of personalities from the Swiss watch industry, Hublot’s CEO Jean-Claude Biver had the honor of receiving the 2010 Spirit of Enterprise Gaia Prize from the hands of Mr Ludwig Oechslin, Jury chairman and Curator of the Museum for: “his entire career and for being a visionary businessman and marketing genius”.

MP

“More watchmaking, more skills, more innovation”
Today Hublot presents its fourth new line of watches, named MP.
The work of a team of 30 employees of the highest level entirely dedicated to Grand Complications integrated within its manufacture en 2010, Hublot is already unveiling this new line of watches, less than a year after their arrival, with a first exceptional piece dubbed the MP-01 (for MP N°1).

Showcase Boutique In Place Vendôme

On June 14, Hublot celebrated the opening of its boutique at 10 Place Vendôme. The boutique unveiled a new concept, the brainchild of star architect Peter Marino. Hublot marked the occasion by presenting the “Vendôme Collection” of models exclusively offered in the 35 Hublot boutiques worldwide, the summer collection Tutti Frutti 2011, and the Big Bang Vendôme, a special edition of 25 pieces.

A NEW CEO
