Tanaka, who is receiving so much attention from all over the world, quickly joined the ranks of star players shortly after joining the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, and currently plays for the New York Yankees.

In the summer of his second year in high school, Tanaka led his team to a championship at Koshien (National High School Baseball Tournament) and attracted public attention. In 2007, he joined the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles as the first-round pick of the 2007 high school draft. In 2009, Tanaka was the youngest member chosen to represent Japan in the World Baseball Classic (WBC). He was the Rakuten team’s leading player until the end of the 2013 season, setting numerous records including most wins, best ERA, and number one winning percentage. In 2013, he was awarded with 3 Guinness World Records: for the most consecutive games won by a pitcher (30 consecutive wins, including 2 wins in the post-season); most consecutive regular-season games won by a pitcher (28 consecutive wins since the previous year); and most consecutive games won by a pitcher in a single regular season (24 consecutive wins). In 2014, Tanaka signed a contract with the New York Yankees of MLB. In May, he improved the number of consecutive games won in the Japan-US regular season to 34, and was voted the American League pitcher of the month. In June, he opened his career with 16 consecutive quality starts, and equaled a Major League record, living up to his name to become a top pitcher in US-Japan professional baseball.

Besides baseball, Tanaka also has a passion for charity, such as holding baseball classes for children along with other similar aged professional baseball players.
