WORLD CHAMPION GENNADIY “GGG” GOLOVKIN RETURNS IN RECORD-BREAKING FORCE
Hublot Ambassador ‘GGG’ sets division record with his 21st successful World Middleweight title defense
The Big Drama Show is back! Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin, boxing's most dominant middleweight of his era, returned to the ring on Friday, at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in Hollywood, Florida, in record-breaking style. Golovkin (41-1-1, 35 or 36 KOs), a native of Kazakhstan, defeated previously unbeaten top-rated contender Kamil Szeremeta (21-1, 5 KOs), of Poland by (add official result. i.e. decision, KO, etc.) Golovkin, the Hublot Ambassador and two-time World Middleweight Champion, added to his legendary boxing résumé by successfully defending his world middleweight title for a division-record 21st time.
Golovkin’s most memorable moments inside the ring have occurred with Hublot emblazoned across his fight night trunks. Friday’s battle against Szeremeta was GGG’s fifth world championship fight sporting the Hublot name – the first was his March 18, 2017 victory against American world champion Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the second was his initial battle, which ended in a draw, against Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez on September 16, 2017 in Las Vegas, followed by his May 5, 2018 knockout victory of American Vanes Martirosyan in Los Angeles, and most recently, his September 15, 2018 world championship rematch against Álvarez, the only loss, albeit controversial, on Golovkin’s record.
Golovkin, who has worn a world championship belt every year since 2010, has packed iconic arenas around the world, selling out Madison Square Garden, The O2 in London, the Fabulous Forum and StubHub Center in Los Angeles, and T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. His decade-long rampage on the middleweight division has also attracted millions of viewers who have watched him on premium cable, pay-per-view, and DAZN. Friday’s historic victory was streamed live to over 200 countries and territories on DAZN.
“I am proud of my partnership with Hublot. In boxing, inside and outside the ring, timing is everything.”
“Congratulations “GGG”! What an incredible and memorable fight. We couldn’t be more proud to have been present in the ring with you for this 21st consecutive middleweight title. What a true champion you are!”
During an earlier fight week press conference, streamed worldwide, Golovkin sported the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Pave. The sporty yet elegant timepiece was the perfect fit for his much-anticipated return to the ring. Hublot was also present during the championship bout on GGG’s uniform, his shorts in the colors of the LA Lakers, an homage to his adopted home.
GGG is no stranger to the world of watches, having collaborated with Hublot on the Classic Fusion GGG. The limited-edition timepiece, created in honor of the great boxer, is emblematic of the long relationship between GGG and Hublot. GGG’s initials stand proudly at 12 o’clock with his logo (two gloves banging together) at 3 o’clock, featuring yellow and blue accents and stitching symbolic of his native Kazakhstan.
Following a decidedly different, but none-the-less exciting year in the world of sports, GGG is the latest in a long line of Hublot Ambassadors and Friend of the Brands who have reached the peak of their fields. From Pelé to the late and great Diego Maradona, Usain Bolt, Alex Morgan or Michael Clarke, Hublot works with men and women who are champions on and off the field of play.
