Hublot Makes Donation to KAMIOSABE Football Field in Rikuzentakata

A charity Event with Vahid Halilhodžić, inviting children from Rikuzentakata.

On July 12, 2015, Swiss watch brand HUBLOT invited children from Rikuzentakata to the “Hublot Charity Football Event with Vahid Halilhodžć.”

The event was the realization of the dream collaboration of eleven children (from local football club Takata FC), who practice and dream to be a member of Japan national football team one day, and a professional football coach, Mr. Vahid Halilhodžić. The children participated in the training by dribbling and passing in front of Mr. Halilhodžić in the stadium at JFA House, where they received technical advice from Coach Vahid. After the training, the children had an opportunity to ask various questions to Mr. Halilhodžić and listened intently to his answers. For children, the time they spent with the Coach will be a wonderful memory and a valuable experience for their future in playing football.

This event was part of Hublot’s continuting support for the area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. It was motivated by the Hublot Charity Kick Target held together with football player Shinji Kagawa in England in March 2013. The event was planned to provide support for the devastated areas and help children’s dreams come true. The prize money from the Hublot Charity Kick Target event with Mr. Kagawa, the profits from the charity auction held in the same year, the charity auction during the Hublot gala dinner celebrating the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan in September 2014, and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the special edition model, which totaled to approximately 10 million Japanese Yen, will be donated to “Kamiosabe no Sato”, which maintains the Kamiosabe Football Field in Rikuzentakata. This ground, where its brilliant green grass can be seen all year, was created by locals with the assistance from the Japan Football Association and Mr. Hisashi Kato, the former football player, for the children and people living in the area who had lost a place to exercise. The donated money will mainly be used for grounds maintenance.

During the donation ceremony, Hublot headquarters’ Asia-Pacific Regional Director, Ms. Miwa Sakai flew in from Switzerland and presented a Hublot wall clock to Hisashi Kato, who is the representative of the Kamiosabe Football Fields. In addition, Mr. Vahid Halilhodžić handed the children a pot of green grass as well as uniforms designed by Shinji Kagawa, who inspired the donation.

Ms. Sakai conveyed her joy of having this opportunity to support children’s dream with Mr. Halilhodžić. “Hublot has been a firm believer of sharing a success, and have done so through various charities worldwide. And I’m happy to be here today to be a part of this remarkable event, to make children’s dream come true, which was made possible by those who share our values, like Mr. Halilhodžić. And I hope that this event has channeled Coach Vahid’s passion for football to the children and aspired them to strive for their dream.”

And Mr. Vahid Halilhodžić commended: “I would like to pay a respect to Hublot for hosting such a charity event. I couldn’t forget the images I’ve seen through news on the earthquake, and I always wanted to do something to help; so I’m very happy to have this opportunity to be a part of this amazing charity event today. And I hope that the children will practice hard on the football ground with beautiful lawn, which was donated by Hublot, and one day will be a great football player.”
