HUBLOT ON EUROPE’S HIGHEST GRASS POLO EVENT
To make a change, Hublot took up residence at 1,000 metres above sea level to celebrate a 2,000 year-old sport: polo. Recognised as the highest tournament in Europe, the Hublot Polo Gold Cup marched to the beat of the Swiss watchmaker for the 11th consecutive year. For four days, Gstaad and its aerodrome’s legendary Bernese grass field, with its air of Argentine pampas, welcomed four teams with a total handicap of 14—the highest level played on grass in Switzerland—and almost 6,000 spectators. The chukkers played to the rhythm of hooves and mallets, officially timed by Hublot, who declared the Clinique la Prairie team as the winner of this 24th edition.

Different—all tournaments take place on several canchas (fields), but the Hublot Polo Gold Cup is played on a single field. And what an unusual and unique cancha it is: an aerodrome converted into a polo field whose original, narrower dimensions result in a game that is faster and easier for the spectators to follow.
Unique—at 1,000 metres above sea level, the Hublot Polo Gold Cup is the highest altitude summer polo tournament in Europe.
First—it is the 24th edition of the tournament and the 11th to bear Hublot’s colours. This is unequalled longevity for a watchmaker in the tournament; above all, it is the first brand to lend the tournament its name since its creation in 1996. With its four teams with a total handicap of 14, the Hublot Polo Gold Cup maintains its status of being “first”, with the highest level played on grass in Switzerland.
After the qualifying round on Thursday 22 August and the semi-finals on Saturday 24 August, the sport of kings saw the Clinique la Prairie team win against Hublot. The tournament’s official timekeeper, Hublot gave the victors one of its more emblematic models—the Big Bang Steel Ceramic 44 mm, engraved with “Winner Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad 2019”.
